HIS OR HERS? WATCHES THAT SWING BOTH WAYS

While ladylike styles are definitely on the forefront for fall, we still love a good men’s watch to balance it out. Whether they’re made for a woman or not, these are our current faves. Bet you can’t tell which is his and which is hers…

menswear watches

The watch on the left, from Philip Stein, has a truly unique design aesthetic. It also claims to “emit a unique signal designed to help strengthen the body’s natural electromagnetic field and resist daily stress”. Count us in on that one. The watch on the right from Dior is quite dramatic with sapphire crystal studding on the stainless steel band.

longines michael kors watches

For something a little lighter, we’re really into the simple, somewhat retro, style of this watch from Longines. With that blue alligator band and detailing, you really can’t go wrong. And with a new take on ceramic, the watch on the right from Michael Kors boasts some gorgeous tortoise shell texture with glamorous gold and rhinestone details.

So, whaddaya say ladies? Can you work these watches better than your man? We think you can. And, don’t worry boys, you can join in the fun too.

NOTE TO SELF…

Sometimes, we just need a little reminder…

alex ostrowski note to self

…that we can do whatever we want! Which is why we love this (very) limited edition book from designer Alex Ostrowski.

alex ostrowski note to self1

A little old fashioned motivation never hurt (and they’re way better than those kitty cat posters that hung in your cheesy math teacher’s classroom).

leave early walk slow

This one might be our motivation for today: “Leave early. Walk slow.” Sounds like good advice to us!

dancing is a workout

Did you workout last weekend? We sure did.

Each book is full of these tear-out motivational posters, and is available on Alex’s website for as long as they last.

TUESDAY TUNES: A SUMMERY SINGLE

Just in time for the last month of summer comes the single On My Way from Amsterdam artist Giovanca.

We’re not sure what we love more, to be honest. Her breezy pop sound, or the video featuring the gorgeous gal in hot ensemble after hot ensemble. Seriously… just watch:

WE’D RATHER BE IN BALI

It’s monday. It’s a bit grey (or is that just LA smog?). So instead, at least for today, we’d rather be living here…

bali home via cookie magazine

The amazing home – yes, HOME – of John Hardy (of jewelry fame), his wife, and two girls. Seriously. Can you imagine that being your living room?

john hardy home bali

Featured here, the home brings together traditional patterns and designs of Balinese culture infused with their own designs (like the hanging chair above) creating an exotic and eclectic look also a hot trend in fashion and interiors right now. And the girls even have their own ‘wing’ of the house (shown above) all to themselves.

Stairs lead to the master bedroom where fabric panels provide privacy as needed without interrupting the amazing view. Yep… we’d definitely leave la la land for a few days to move right into this tropical home… wouldn’t you?

FRIDAY PHOTO: HUDSON ON THE STRIP

Usually, Fridays are reserved for our favorite fashion photography, but today we’d like to show off our own skills with a little pic we snapped while lunching on Sunset…

Our big billboard brings a little style to the strip, don’t you think?

If you’re in LA this weekend, might we recommend doing a little drive-by? Bonus points for snapping a photo of you in your Hudsons, waving to the camera.

FALLING HARD…

Maybe it’s the cool mornings we’ve been having here in LA, or the fact that we’re so excited about our fall line we can’t wait to pull on some boots with our new skinnies, but we are seriously ready for next season’s fashions. To help get you in the mood too, we’ve done a little window shopping…

jill sanders patent bags fall

Jil Sander’s patent collection features some gorgeous hues of the season’s more muted jewel tones – a deep teal and fabulous burgundy.

Nothing says fall like warm shades of brown leather. Our picks are a pair of lighter caramel equestrian boots from Chloe, and a Marc Jacobs foldover clutch in contrasting browns.

metallic dress lela rose la petite

Of course, we’ll need to pick up a new dress for the season, and we’re loving the subtle metallic look in these two dresses. On the left, La Petite S*****, on the right Lela Rose

Are you in the mood yet? We thought so.

CHEERS TO KEEPIN’ IT GREEN

How would you like to save the environment and drink at the same time? Yes, it’s possible. And, yes, we’re in. (Did you really need to ask?)

The experts at Food & Wine recently published a short list of recommendations from wineries around the country that have found a variety of ways to go green while still putting out some fabulous bottles.

Their two top picks are both fresh summer whites…

sokol blosser estate wine vineyard

The 2006 Sokol Blosser Estsate Pinot Gris is one of many refreshing whites offered by this vineyard, all of which have received acclaim. With bio-diesel fueled tractors, LEED certification and solar powered energy, Sokol Blosser is also receiving acclaim for its green practices.

frog's leap vineyard winery

From Frog’s Leap Winery comes a 2007 Sauvignon Blanc described as ‘crisp and juicy’. As a vineyard that has always taken pride in organic production, the winery also uses renewable geothermal energy for heating and cooling its buildings.

If you’re more of a red wine lover, try the 2005 Stillwater Creek Vineyard Merlot from Novelty Hill Wines who were the first in the Columbia Valley to be granted ‘salmon safe’ certification, or the 2005 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from Rodney Strong Vineyards where 80,000 square feet of solar panels produce the same amount of power that would be used for 800 homes.

TUESDAY TUNES: THE DUKE SPIRIT

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, lead singer Liela Moss, was asked, “Why should people listen to the Duke Spirit?”

She answered: “Well, there’s no reason not to. Don’t they want to be healed? Don’t they want to be excited? Don’t they want to be turned on? Don’t they want to be set free?”

the duke spirit liela moss

Indeed, Leila, indeed.

The Duke Spirit have been around since their debut in 2003 with a sound reminiscent of late 80′s rock mixed with Liela’s rough bluesy voice, but it’s their latest album, Neptune, that has really bumped up the buzz on this band.

Check out this single from the album, The Step and the Walk. If you like what you hear, you’re gonna love the rest.

COLAB – ORATION

We’re always excited to discover a little originality in the world of fashion, so when we stumbled upon the Aussie company, Colab, we were instant fans.

colab sunglasses

Meant to bring artists and designers together in pursuit of creating pieces with “no constraint, no rules to follow, no target market to appease,” Colab has created its first line of unique eyewear.

colab aviators

The line was created by selected artists from all over the world. Perks_And_Mini (Australia), EBoy (Germany), Geoff McFetridge (USA), Rockin*Jellybean (Japan), and Neasden Control Centre (United Kingdom) all contributed several designs, each bringing their own look to the collaboration.

While there is certainly a bit of trendiness in these designs, with only 1,000 pairs are available in each style at least you know you’re sure to be somewhat original, even in subtle ways. (The pair above by Geoff McFetridge features a poem printed on the inside of the right temple, and is our first pick as favorite!)

Colab promises more seasonal collaborations in the future, so be sure to keep an eye on their site for more original pieces to come!

FRIDAY PHOTO: SEBASTIAN FAENA

This week’s Friday Photo is a two-for-one deal, since we couldn’t pick our favorite shot from photographer Sebastian Faena for V Magazine’s ‘In Your Dreams’ spread.

After all… some like it hot:

And some of us prefer the beach:
