BUNDLED UP WITH SMYTH

We’re in love with a man named Smyth, and here’s why…

smyth jackets2

He satisfied our cravings for a cozy weekend jacket and a fancy tuxedo jacket.

He understands that a girl needs to exercise her options.

He’s still in love with the nautical look, and so are we. And did we mention his motorcycle? Vrroooom…

TUESDAY TUNES: TAKE YOUR PICK

This Tuesday has quite a few new releases to recommend, including the full album from Nikka Costa that we mentioned back in August.

Along with Nikka, we’ve got Lucinda Williams’ Little Honey, Ray LaMontagne’s Gossip in the Grain, Keane’s Perfect Symmetry and a new band we’ve just discovered, Kinetic Stereokids’ Have a Nice Day EP.

Since we’re pretty sure you’ve heard of the rest, here’s a little taste from the newbies:

FOR THE LOVE OF FEATHERS

The feather fad has officially arrived, and even though we’re sure we’ll be sick of it by winter… we’re still falling for it now!

feathers1

Feathers in red top a serious pair of Louboutins, a black and white headband becomes more unique with the curled feathers by Feather Brain

feathers3

Go a little crazy with fantasy lashes from Shu Uemera (just in time for Halloween!), or a feather skirt from Elizabeth & James.

feathers2

Diggin’ the dots on these selections, we reaaalllllly love the clutch from R & Y Augousti. And for those on a budget? There’s always options (like these earrings and hat) at Urban Outfitters

CHOW DOWN, MIAMI STYLE

What happens when Mr. Chow goes to Miami…? This:

philippe chow miami

A total hot spot in every sense of the word with high contrast decor (better keep those shades on) and glamour.

philippe chow miami

Did you want a spot at the bar?

Or will the chef’s table do?

philippe chow miami

VIP? No problem.

With two stories, there’s plenty of room for everyone. And how’s the food? We’re willing to bet it’s just as good as the decor. Maybe.

TUESDAY TUNES: RACHAEL YAMAGATA

If you’ve never heard of the amazing vocalist and songwriter Rachael Yamagata, you should stop what you’re doing and immediately download her first album. If you have heard of her, then you’re one of the many who have been waiting (and waiting and waiting) for some new songs. In which case, today is your lucky day….

Rachael’s music is moody, poetic, and soulful, and her first single, Elephants, off the slowly releasing album (the first part of which comes out today), is a true taste of this side of her. For those of you needing something a bit more upbeat, listen to her other single, Sidedish Friend, on her myspace page to get your fix.

DESIGN TREND: ELEPHANT RINGS

It might be a strange trend to be picking up on, but we’re not making this up…

elephant rings

Elephants are everywhere right now – in jewelry, accessories and decor! But the rings are by far our favorite way to sport this motif. From left to right: A bejeweled elephant from Anthropologie, a simplified elephant in brushed yellow gold by Abraxas Rex for Barneys, and a beautifully detailed version by Gretchen Julius with just a touch of bling at Auto.
