THE FAROL DESIGN HOTEL

Set on a small cliff on the shores of Portugal, this little boutique hotel is calling our name…

Farol Design Hotel

The Farol Design Hotel is a modern building attached to an older mansion dating back 1890 owned by the Count of Cabral (doesn’t that just sound cool?).

Farol Design Hotel

Out of the 33 guest rooms, 10 were ‘dressed’ by some of Portugal’s top fashion designers, creating a unique space to relax and enjoy the view. We always like a little fashion crossover to the design world.

The ‘On The Rocks’ Bar is located in the old mansion, creating an eclectic vibe of past meeting present, and ‘The Mix’ dining room provides a gorgeous view and after hours DJ’s.

Poolside is also seaside. There’s no way to not relax here. Are we there yet?

STYLE SPOTLIGHT: RACHEL ROY

We’re gonna start a new little segment around here from time to time highlighting kick ass style and why we love it. Rachel Roy’s Pre-Fall collection seemed like a good place to start…

Seriously. Those SHOES! And we know that blazers are going to be hot for spring all the way into fall. We’re seeing a messy chic trend here – taking the ladylike styles of last year and making them a little dishevelled. How very Parisian meets West Coast thinking, non?

TUESDAY TUNES: COCONUT RECORDS

Jason Schwartzman is one of those rare Hollywood types (can we even really call him that?) whose projects we’re always diggin’ on. Coconut Records, his little indie pop group, is just one more reason to adore him.

And, since we just found out that the new album Davy is available for download right here, the least we could do is share the news. Don’t you just love your Tuesday Tunes? Awww, thanks. We love you too.

AND THE WINNER IS…

Don’t you just love awards season? While we couldn’t really tell you who won every award last night at the Golden Globes, we were certainly paying attention to the trends on the red carpet…

Ruffles from Reem Acra on Olivia Wilde (please eat something), and J. Mendel on Elizabeth Banks made a perfectly girly statement that we are loving.

Go big or go home? These two had the most ‘controversial’ looks of the evening. Some of us are loving the big overdone hair on the quirky Drew Barrymore to match the whimsy of a Galliano gown, and if anyone can pull off the vintage styled pouf from Dior, it’s Eva Mendes (PS – love the necklace!). Some of us think they both overdid it. Thoughts?

golden globes nudes

Hello, color trend of the year. Thanks for making this one an obvious choice.

And, just in case nude isn’t really your thang… plenty of lovely brights and pastels to choose from. Is it just us, or does Cameron look like she just rolled out of bed? And yet… what a perfectly glowing California girl she is in pink Chanel. Versace folds look heavenly on January Jones, and Laura Linney gets our vote for casual elegance in yellow couture from Elie Saab.

FRIDAY PHOTO: ELLEN VON UNWERTH

How we’ve gotten this far in our Friday Photo series without highlighting the work of Ellen von Unwerth is beyond us…

We’re feelin’ like classing things up a bit this weekend. Claudia Schiffer style. See you all on Monday!

Genius. Nobody can’t tell us these aren’t practical. Consider us sold.

FIELDS OF LIGHT

Shopping in LA is easy. Landscaping? Not so much. We’re always on the lookout for ways to be more ‘green’,† drought resistant plants, and low maintenance ideas.† So when we stumbled upon this project by lighting designer Bruce Monroe out of the UK, we couldn’t help thinking… could this be the next alternative?

eden-project7

His installation “Field of Light” at Eden Project consists of 6,000 acrylic tubes containing optical fibers that illuminate the grounds, creating a landscape of light. For the full article, you can go right here.

Of course, while these little lights look awesome at night, would they be just as cool during the day? We’re thinking they could make some improvements to the concrete jungles of LA…

TUESDAY TUNES: CUT COPY

When doing ‘research’ for our Tuesday Tunes posts (very technical, of course) we ask our friends who fancy themselves music experts for their suggestions. The clear winner for the last few months now has been Cut Copy.

They’ve got an 80′s electronic pop vibe that’s nothing short of rad, and their album In Ghost Colors has been named one of the top albums of the year by many sources. So, if it’s not in your ipod yet… you best start downloading, young hipsters.
