Keith Richards’ Knuckles, Richard Prince’s Stained Shirt

Keith Richards’ hands by Francesco Carrozzini

There is one Italian who can shoot people in a way that exposes their true character — or caricature, as the case may be — or even make them more alluring than they really are. Photographer Francesco Carrozzini is one such guy. At only 28 years old, he is so talented in what he does that designer Diane Von Furstenberg opened up her studio on 14th Street to him the night before Monday’s Met Ball. The guests who payed homage — Francesca Sozzani, Editor in Chief of Vogue Italia, Italian fashion mogul Lapo Elkann, and artist Jeff Koons, whom Carrozzini photographed — only add to his esteem.

The work speaks for itself. Check out Bob Deniro, artist Richard Prince, and actor John Malkovich (the bum carrying the chair), and global socialite Daphne Guinness as a brunette magician, in slideshow below. (Work is on display now at Diane Von Furstenberg, 440 West 14th Street, NYC.)

Home is wherever I’m with you.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros are an ensemble led by Alex Ebert. They produce power pop songs which resemble organic meaning within everyday circumstances. The song ‘Home’ reminds me of when I was staying in New York and living an unfamiliar lifestyle rife with feeling and emotion. Home is wherever I’m with you.

Met Ball: Some People Still Know How to Dress Themselves….

Lily Donaldson — BEST LOOK OF THE MET BALL — in Marc Jacobs

Yes, a lot of the Met Ball fashion  was crap. This year’s ball — held Monday evening to benefit the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art — focused on “American Style.” In the case of many movie stars (like Maggie Gyllenhaal or Katy Perry), they seemed to interpret this to mean some kind of Oklahoma (the musical!) hoedown, replet with busty and bustles, odd ruffles, prints, cinches, and (eek!) taffeta.

But since we at Hudson are nice people who believe that style can be tapped even in a good solid sexy pair of blue jeans, I’ve decided to focus on who looked GOOD. See slideshow below.

Goodbye Deitch Projects! End of a Downtown Institution

Dealer/Curator Jeffrey Deitch, (left) in pink, says goodbye to Deitch Projects and downtown NYC /

Downtown New York City moves faster than the speed of light. You’ve got the club of the moment, the look of the moment, the high of the moment. But when something sticks, it never lets go.

Then, you’ve got Deitch Projects– the main gallery on Wooster Street between Grand and Canal — a converging cutting edge artists’ space started fourteen years ago by dealer Jeffrey Deitch.  Everyone from Vanessa Beecroft, to Mariko Mori, to Yoko Ono has shown there. Fischerspooner played there in the glittery early 21st century. So when Deitch showed it’s last show on May 1st, “May Day,” it seemed as though all of downtown Manhattan and half of Brooklyn came to pay homage.

Deitch, who is like the eccentric, cool-seeking uncle of hipster kids worldwide, will be taking a position as the director of MOCA in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, you’ve got until May 20th to view Shepard Fairey’s exhibit — “May Day”– a salute to spring, rebirth, and international workers. See the slideshow below, fantastic shots by my friend, Stefania Pia, who accompanied me to the closing show opening.

Light up. Light up.

Yochai Matos, ‘I’m Not Gonna Live Forever’, Hoxton Square.

Yochai Matos is a light installation artist who uses standard, long fluorescent tube light bulbs, the kind that can be found in institutional spaces. Taking abstract forms, Matos creates a sentimental quality on adolescent memories (the lights are the type used in your old classrooms!).

Florence and her yellow-coloured dreamcoat.

‘Fresh’ exhibition opening, Trinity Wharf, East London.

‘Fresh’ opened its doors last week showing installations, painting, live art, videos and architecture in an old basement at Trinity Wharf.

Sheily at the ‘Another’ photoshoot. Look at those shoes!!
