Are you waiting for someone?

Sunshine Underground are back with their new single Spell It Out. The Leeds born boys describe themselves as indie kids from the 80′s, which is also why their music video centers around a space chase to defeat a giant robot all of which is influenced by 80′s computer graphics. The single is released from album Nobody’s Coming to Save You which is out now.

Julian Lennon, Photographer

Some of the photographs on display, Julian Lennon’s work, at the Morrison Hotel outlet on the Bowery

Ever wonder what Julian Lennon does? The oldest son of Julian Lennon (with first wife Cynthia Powell) has made music for the past two decades, but now his interest has turned to photography. He explained to people at the Morrison Hotel Bowery gallery that it’s a natural progression for him, especially since he photographed U2 — Bono and the Edge seen here — in private rehearsals. You’ll also find golden girl Kate Hudson making love to a piano; a profile of half brother Sean; and a lovely montage of leaves with which Julian augmented the dreamy colors in post development.

Seems that the elder Lennon son has mellowed a bit in his middle years since he showed up at the opening with Yoko Ono, the woman for whom his father left his first family. So, in time even the most fractured of situations can heal.

See Julian’s photographic expression for yourself, until October 10th at Morrison Gallery, 313 Bowery.

Jonas Mekas: Father of Avant Garde, the Oldest Hipster

Last Friday night around 8 pm, if you were on Delancey Street between Allen and Eldridge, you’d spot a swarm of twenty something kids in do-rags, anarchist tees, thrift store dresses, and on skateboards. You’d also spot a chap in a cocked brown hat fit for an Australian crocodile hunter. This bloke — a mere 88 years old — would be Jonas Mekas, the filmmaker/artist known as the `father of avant garde cinema,’ talking to fans and friends at the opening of his exhibit at the new James Fuentes gallery, relocated from Chinatown to LES.

Mekas, whose films and stills (some seen in the Hudson slide show and video here) seem to chronicle a simpler time in humanity and perhaps for their nostalgia of a world lost to technology addiction and greed, these clips still can be regarded as avant garde in that sense. One thing we can count on, the Lithuanian born Mekas can still drink his much younger friends under the table. He was still holding court past 2 am at his after-party at the Jane Hotel later that evening. Check out his work until October 31st at James Fuentes Gallery, 55 Delancey Street, between Allen and Eldridge.

Where There’s Cool, There’s Ronson

Looks from Charlotte Ronson’s Spring 2011 show

Here in NYC, we’re experiencing a bit of what we call “Indian Summer,” when the temperatures get balmy although yesterday marked the first day of autumn. Only last week, fashionistas were running around town in parkas and boots, only to shrug them off now. That’s when the spring fever of Charlotte Ronson popped into my head.

Charlotte, the twin of deejay (and Lindsay Lohan’s ex) Samantha, could be called the girlie one of the two. Her penchant for florals, stripes, and kick em up frocks makes me long for a holiday, one where I’d pack some of her day dresses and my fave Hudson jeans. It would be a holiday packed with some mixes by her brother, music producer Mark Ronson, who is now sporting dyed platinum hair.  This family makes its own party Little sis, model actress Annabelle Dexter Jones walked Charlotte’s runway. And youngest brother Alexander Dexter Jones is  currently en route to Tokyo for some deejay gigs.

Woo Life!

There is still speculation about whether or not this band actually exists or if they are just a marketing ploy, but none the less Wu Lyf is officially the most talked about unsigned band in Britain. And the hype definitely hasn’t been hurt by the fact that not one of the 4 piece band will say a word about anything, to anyone. All we know is they have released 4 great music videos and that until they are signed, its all very hush hush. This is the band’s newest video for Split it Concrete like the Golden Sun God.

Courtney Love…. Still Rockin and Rippin’ It in NYC

Courtney Love, just last week, at Don Hill’s in NYC

We’ve come to expect her here every fashion week. Courtney Love, who supposedly has been posting her daily outfits to a website, decided to go back to her original talent of singing and rocking out. At a packed house, the third official night of the newly opened Don Hill’s club on Spring and Greenwich in Manhattan, she covered old favorites like “Violet” and did a kick ass rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance.” She demanded cigarettes, water, and that people take “lots of photos.” Hudson jeans grabbed a close up (above) and a sweet video taste of how it all went down, below.

Fashion NYC: She’s Dropped the Christ! Full On Imitation

No one knew what to expect when original Imitation of Christ designer Tara Subkoff debuted her latest creations in a line called just plain ol’ Imitation at the end of NYC Fashion Week. Subkoff, who survived the removal of a brain tumor last year, sent out looks that embraced femininity, purity and rebirth. A few of the frocks would fit a skipping barefoot bride: she sent so many light, airy and lace-trimmed numbers down the runway designed as grass on a fairground. Flicks of sheep and carousels played in the backdrop and rumor had it that Subkoff even ordered live bunnies to hop in between the models but PETA intervened with a threat, putting the kibosh on the plan. Whatever the case, Subkoff has successfully re-birthed herself with Imitation. It’s never been so much fun to be a girl!
