Left to Right: Michelle Harper with pink glasses and Rosson Crow at Alexandre Herchcovitch
One trend emerging in full force on the runways this season is full-on color in tropical shades of turquoise, cherry, yellow, and violet. Alexandre Herchcovitch, the Brazilian designer sent out a full collection of wonderful — just throw it on with nifty pumps — dresses in full on brights, with a subset done in peach. You might have to sport a tan first before wearing one of these bright parfaits. (See video below.)
Geordie lads Little Comets are back with the new single Isles which hears them returning to their ‘kitchen sink indie’ sounds. Painting a poetic picture of modern Britain through the eyes of director Aoife McArdle, the music video shows stark images of greasy spoons, caravan sites, bordered up shops creating an emotional, evocative mini-film of England. The single is released on October 18th shortly followed by a UK tour supporting Darwin Deez.
Kelly Osbourne strikes a pose, in Elise Overland, at Elise Overland show
To look at what’s happening on the runways in NYC, some trends have emerged. Alexander Wang sent down an architectural all white show. He said something to the press about liking “purity.” But everywhere else, including last night’s Marc Jacobs show, color POPPED!
By spring, get ready to see girls in electric violets, reds, and hold your breath chartreuse. I can see rocking a graffiti color tunic with some Hudson jeans. And how about those shoes?
Check out the looks from Elise Overland in the slide show and video, below, for an idea of what a Manhattan seductress might wear on the town. Overland is Norwegian and pals around with artists like Hope Atherton and musician Diego Garcia. Also spotted in her front row, sculptor Terence Koh, wearing a white furry jacket and white sunglasses.
Friday night was “Fashion’s Night Out,” the Vogue Magazine sponsored marketing campaign where New York shoppers get to meet designers at various boutiques around town and hopefully spend money. While the moneyed and impressionable hit everywhere from Christian Louboutin to Barney’s, the infamous and jaded headed to Don Hill’s where Iggy Pop — now a spry 63 years old — ranted and body surfed.
It marked the first official night of Nur Khan and Paul Sevigny’s refurbished rock establishment on Spring and Greenwich Streets. (“Friends and family” got the first taste the night before with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.) Pop Magazine supposedly sponsored the Iggy event, but judging from the old school crowd of friends I found, including former Nancy Boy front man Donovan Leitch, model songstress Karen Elson, shutterbug Terry Richardson, and musician Evan Dando, the former kids who ran this town in the early Nineties came home to roast. Iggy was in rare form. Check out the vids below.
