Fantasy in a Townhouse Part Two: The SWEETS!

Fashionistas starting their diet new year resolutions were completely foiled by Stella McCartney’s recent fete in a West Village private townhouse, since Charbonnel et Walker, the official chocolate manufacturers to the Queen, catered the sweet portion of the evening.

The evidence, seen in the Hudson slideshow, featured various concoctions: sugar covered almonds, cotton candy, vanilla wafers, banana pudding, macaroons, chocolate cake, cupcakes, and creams with orange rind. It was enough to make me burst out of my fabulous Hudson jeans.

Still, a little sweet proves good for the spirit, especially when British tradition backs it. Charbonnel et Walker was founded in 1875 at the behest of Edward VII– then Prince of Wales– who encouraged Mrs. Walker and Mme Charbonnel (from Paris) to set up shop on Bond Street in Mayfair.  Stateside blokes and girlies who miss the taste can head to Cafe Charbonnel at 611 Fifth Avenue (at 50th Street.)  Diet be damned!

Fantasy in A Townhouse, Part One: the Clothes

Although Brit gal designer Stella McCartney stayed warm with November born baby girl Reiley in the UK, her pre Fall collection made its way to the West Village last night.  Lithe models took over a private residential townhouse and gals in striped jumpers, houndstooth jackets plus a bright red one for good measure, and reasonable ladylike pumps made me think of the various ways I could pair these fab chic items with Hudson jeans. Again, just as a day ago I was envisioning slipping into dangerous looking gold spiked Louboutin pumps with my rock skinny Hudsons, my stylish imagination also found a lot of great matches here, with Stella’s latest collection.

Shoe Fetish GIRLS!

Welcome to 2011! Gone are the days of the mammoth weaponry shoe and welcome back to ladylike, but sexy pumps. What better could I find to turn on the Sixties, a la Brigitte Bardot, sex kitten vibe to pair with my best Hudson jeans?

Christian Louboutin remains the master of the ‘bedroom shoe,’ many seen here in our slide show. The patent leather red and black peep toes work for our jaunts to various islands, St. Barts and beyond. The green and lavender suede also work for sunny jaunts.

When making a statement in Manhattan, London, or Paris, my heart goes to the sequined black or gold shoes with porcupine points. Yeah, they look like the weaponry I just said was passé, but the difference lies in the totally feline ladylike flare in these designs — as opposed to the bulkier shoes of two seasons ago —  coupled with danger. We like, we like!

Tamar Korn, Sounds like a Violin, Looks Like a Forties Angel

Tamar Korn, 29, will amaze you with her voice. Not only can she channel big band singers of the forties, but here we caught her at a show at SouthPaw in Brooklyn mimicking a violin playing “Stormy Weather.”  Korn, who was weaned on Ella Fitzgerald and jazz standards in her Northern California family, heard her father, an actual violinist, play tunes from her crib. And now you can catch her all around NYC with jazz group, the Cangelosi Cards, which consists of a full orchestra that also incorporates folk and Americana into the mix. What’s cool is that she can improvise to any tune, taking on jazz dissonance in her vocals and also imitating instruments as heard here. Korn has performed with them and others in France, China, and Canada to name a few. And she’s really something unique to see in person. Check out: CangelosiCards

Apres Ski, the Look of the Moment for Winter

For the chic look of the moment, look down! Ever since Karl Lagerfeld sent out his white fur apres ski boots down the Chanel runway for Fall Winter 2010/11, the word spread among chic girls in Paris and London and now, NYC!  For a couple thousand dollars, you can get the ones seen in this slideshow and in a similar price range D&G did a brown bunny version of the apres ski. They are the perfect accessory of the week, the best winter statement with any pair of Hudson jeans!

My favorite after the Chanel white rabbit look belongs to Michael Kors’ chocolate apres skis boots –now on sale this week for $798 (down from $1995)– at the recently opened Bleeker Street boutique. If you’re not the ski bunny type, try Kors’ wedged booties with your Hudsons. So hot! (Michael Kors’ new West Village outpost is located at 384 Bleeker Street, between Charles and Perry.)

Miami, the Hottest Stateside New Year’s Eve 2011!

Photos, shot by Gavin Doyle

Some years, certain spots ring in hotter than others. NYC’s moneyed folk headed to St. Barts, but the hip kids and celebrities flew a little closer to home, Miami, Florida. Gossip Girl “it boy” Chace Crawford rung in the new year at the Fountainbleau Hotel, while the newly opened Cosmopolitan Hotel on the other coast in Las Vegas hosted Emmy Rossum and Kirsten Dunst. But underground style types stuck to Florida and followed Chloe Sevigny to the Mondrian, where brother, deejay Paul, spun tunes — a lot from the Eighties — as songstress Lissy Trullie and pastry chef Arden Wohl sat at a table close by. Andrew Wyatt– of Mike Snow — performed. And while the weather proved chilly, the warmth of the fireworks made up for any lost heat.
