Up On A Roof with Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney — fashion designer, Beatles’ daughter, animal rights activist — would never think to do a ho-hum showing of her resort collection, even when it comes to accessories. Combining part exhibition, part garden party, Stella took over Gavin Brown’s gallery in the West Village the other week with pals, actors Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson and a few of us fashiony types. We marveled at how good Stella’s non-leather bags looked and at the promise of her comfortable wedges. Then we headed up to the deck for cocktails and ice cream cones. Stella scattered some pins saying “Meat Free Mondays,” a movement she started asking citizens of the globe to go without eating meat once a week to spare the world the carbon imprint that comes with slaughtering cows. Suddenly, I’m hearing that Smiths’ song, “Meat is Murder” in my head, but back to fashion. Stella’s bags and wedges make for the perfect toppers with Hudson cargos. See the evidence, below.
