Trailer Happiness

On the corner of Portobello Road in Notting Hill sits the fabulously retro cocktail bar Trailer Happiness – in their own words – ‘a brilliant lounge bar, den and kitschen’. Heading downstairs the chic hangout has the easy luxe feel of a Californian-style bachelor pad, with a tiki twist. J.H. Lynch and Tretchikoff prints hang on the walls and 60′s beaded curtains provide decoration. The couches and stools are low to the ground, but this isn’t about pastiche, it’s about fun. The food is hearty: expect such dishes as Uncle Leroy’s Lamb and Lemon Racks, Alabama Black Snake Sesame Shrimp and Where You Been All My Life? Crispy Roast Duck. Washed down with one of the Tiki Classic or Homage cocktails it’s a surefire way to start a classic night out. For a more educational night the bar also offers cocktail classes – perfect for the suave bachelor in training.

Get the Look: The Kill’s Alison Mosshart

The Kills’ leading lady Alison Mosshart knows exactly how to rock a pair of jeans. While few chicks can own the post-punk, garage-rock style that Alison Mosshart does, we promise to get you as close as possible to this style icons edgy look:

First thing’s first, start with some serious denim. To emulate the Mosshart-esque look, begin with a pair of Hudson N.2 Gonzales skinnies in black sateen. These bad boys allow you to be comfortable without sacrificing style!
Moving on to the torso, we suggest a loose fitting vintage tee. Don’t be afraid of graphics, ladies! A Hudson asymmetrical zip front jacket or a  light weight blazer will tone down the look and add a girly flare to the ensemble as well.
In honor of Mosshart’s stage performances, we suggest a combat boot fit for some wear & tear. Tie the laces off halfway up the boot, and allow the tongue to be semi-open to go for a more hardcore vibe.
Accessories are always welcome, but don’t go overboard! A fedora and long necklace will do the trick, or gather some eclectic bangles and skip the rest.

Barrio North

If you’re looking for a rum-soaked evening there’s no better place than Barrio North on Islington’s Essex Road. Founded by financier-turned-DJ Ferdie Ahmed his love of travel and rum formed the basis of the Barrio concept. The Spanish word ‘Barrio’ literally translates as ‘neighborhood’ and that concept runs through the watering hole in the community spirit and chilled out vibe. A dilapidated, deconstructed and reclaimed aesthetic is created through the school desks which lined up, rainbow light bulbs and creeping leaves, not to mention the vintage caravan which stands proud at the back of the bar. The drinks menu is unique and wide-ranging and in making the cocktails no detail is too small; the bar staff take their time and present the drinks beautifully.

Here’s our pick of the best cocktails:

Gunpowder: ‘Strong Havana Club rum, honey and spice served the Cuban way, only without the…’

Brazilian Lady: ‘An exotic seduction of Abelha cachaca, passion fruit and cool lemon’

Pacific Twitch: ‘Aloha! Sailor Jerry spiced rum, apple, ginger, falernum and Ting’

Barrio Club Cocktail: ‘Silky Martin Miller’s gin, homemade gin liqueur and raspberries’

Or if you’re feeling brave try ‘The No Brainer’: ‘Two expressions of Herradura 100% agave tequila party with exotic guava and pineapple juice, super fresh grapefruit and lime before being charged with some fine bubbly’, which is served up in a giant mug shaped like a wrestling mask!

What to Wear to Outside Lands

August 12th is just around the corner, which means San Francisco’s Outside Lands Festival is here!  Muse, Arcade Fire, The Black keys, and Deadmau5…OH MY! So the most burning question awaits: What to wear?!

Natives of Northern California are already well versed in San Fran’s sporadic sunshine, so it is important to remember the number one rule: LAYERS! You can always shed them during the day, whether the UV rays decide to make an appearance or you overheat while rockin’ out to Major Lazer’s set. Here are a couple versatile outfit recommendations perfect for that SF weather and that Arcade Fire sing along you know you’ll be a part of!

NIGHTTIME
+ A pair of Hudson Collin Signature Skinnies with a black and white color blocking shirt and lightweight jacket. Oxfords or ankle boots will come in handy while scouring Golden Gate Park’s fields for stages and booths.

WARM + SUNNY DAY
+ A pair of Hudson’s Venice Cuffed Shorts and a cute crop top will be the perfect combo for the somewhat rare but extremely pleasant SF sun. Add a fedora and shades to avoid the all too common fiesty sunburn!

SF GLOOM
+ Hudson May Five Skinnies paired with a flowing, patterned boho top. You’ll fit in with the hippie inspired SF trends all while maintaining that perfect temperature balance.

LA Neighborhoods: Venice

Venice Beach is a fantastic destination for  summer shenanigans, with the ocean at your tip toes there is tons to do! The people of Venice range from surfer dudes to bohemian babes, you’re not hip if you don’t have a beach cruiser, a skateboard or a surf board escorting you down these streets. So with that said, the style of Venice is VERY relaxed and, of course, beach friendly. So put on your Hudson jumpsuit, your floppy hat and your fave kicks, let’s hit the beach!

1. People watching: The Sidewalk Cafe is the ultimate people watching event! Order a round and some appetizers and spend the day admiring the many interesting people of the boardwalk. Lots of weird + lots of surf = all around lots of good times on the boardwalk!

2. Poolside: For a good view with some poolside action, lounge at the Shangri-La hotel. Amazing roof action and yes, satisfaction guaranteed!

3. Block Party: Every First Friday Abbot Kinney opens all it’s doors for a day of food trucks, people watching, store browsing and art admiring.

4. Good Eats: If your looking for a cool location to rest your beach bum and enjoy some ambiance head on over to Gjelina. This is the hottest restaurant in LA right now and the food is out of this world.

5. A stroll for two: Never underestimate a good walk with great company. If you’re looking for a low key activity take a stroll along the infamous Venice Canals. Time it along with sunset and it can be quite romantic!

Biking in Los Angeles

Biking in LA has got to be the most trendy, leisurely activity for the summer. With the onset of this two-wheeled warrior fad, biking and style now go hand in hand. Not only is biking the greenest way to hit the town, but also the most stylish. So let us give you some cool spots to ride and an awesome outfit to match!

Riding in style: Since it’s hot out, a lightweight shirt paired with some comfortable Hudson jeans (skinny only!) will do the trick to keep you looking fresh. A pair of top-siders will really complement the getup and align with current nautical trends.

Riding spots:
Silverlake Reservoir: It’s always nice to ride  over to your local coffee shop, we love LAMILL! Post-coffee energy spurt, bring your bike over the reservoir and park it, lay down in the grass and relax!

The beach: Any beach front is a good zone to ride in style. Most of the beaches like Santa Monica and Venice have bike lanes, which helps keep traffic to a minimum and lets you mingle with other stylish bikers.

Night rides: With summer nights hot, sticky, and  calling your name, it’s quite appropriate to ride into the night and go for a fun bar hop in Echo Park. The Short Stop, and El Prado are close enough to get the party started!

Don’t forget your bike locks!

1. The shades: Cat-eyed or vintage round is where it’s at this summer, so make sure your armed with some sunnies. A MUST for all poolside activity.
2. The sunscreen: Yesterday was 95 degrees here in LA, there is nothing stylish about a sunburn!
3. Cover-ups: Short and sweet or long and divine , cover-ups are for entrance and exit appeal. Always want to make a scene and leave with a bang. (A good motto to live by).
