You had to be in a certain crowd to know about it. “Pete Doherty’s playing a gig at Milk Studios!” My friend told me. The owner of Milk concurred and encouraged me to come. Despite the door scene, with hockey player Sean Avery and actor Bruce Willis queuing to get inside, Pete was a no show. “He couldn’t make it through customs.” Sean Lennon told me. “They wouldn’t let him in.” So the first fifteen minutes of the concert — now just friends of Pete Doherty — were dedicated to apologies and sending love to Pete by the host, model Irina Lazareanu, dressed like Patti Smith circa 1975. Irina tried her hand at some spoken word. Then Lennon and girlfriend Charlotte Kemp did their best to keep things melodic until that poor bloke Adam Green took the stage. I’m really thinking this guy is a cross between a piss take on Arlo Guthrie and Adam Sandler. Check out how he shakes his little stick. Sadly, without Pete and so much piss taking, it all went downhill from there, but Hudson was there to capture the best bits. Alas, truth is stranger than fiction. And life is comedy. Proof here.
