Vanessa Paradis, the new face of Rouge Coco de Chanel

Coco Chanel always said a woman should never leave the house without lipstick. Economic indicators have proven that in time of war and economic collapse women tend to buy more red lipstick. And just in time for Spring, Vanessa Paradis – French chanteuse, sometimes actress and Johnny Depp’s main bird–will officially become the face of Rouge Coco de Chanel, an unquestionably crimson lip shade, the topper of thirty shades that Coco herself would have worn.

Next week, the usually press shy Paradis will be the guest of honor at a VIP Chanel dinner in NYC, filled with a guest list including a bevy of male artists like Aaron Young and Tom Sachs. No word on whether she follows fine art, but she just released her greatest hits album in Europe and the States and her Johnny is now in LA shooting a documentary on Keith Richards with rock legend Patti Smith.  Here’s what’s on record about Madame Paradis: She and Johnny call their private island in the Caribbean “F**k Off Island.”  And she told the London Times. “I don’t have any famous neighbors and if I did, I’d avoid them.” It just proves that mystery is sexy.  From her lips to ours, so is Coco rouge lipstick.
