I spoke to my housemates this week and it turns out that I didn’t get food poisoning before I left for New York; it was actually mouse poisoning. MOUSE POISONING meaning we have mice! Both of them took it in turns vomiting aggressively over the toilet whilst pest control tackled the little rodents that had been diseasing our house! On a lighter note, I was finally getting better and was taking full advantage of New York happy hour (which seems to be all the time?). I also discovered that your portion of a ‘double shot’ is actually more like a double glass compared to our poor excuse of a drink back home. Wednesday afternoon and Chris had a couple of appointments to see some studio apartments over in Greenpoint. Two pretty nice apartments although the more expensive one seemed to be the worst (and the dirtiest). We then headed down to the water so Chris could show me the view of the City. This was my first year staying in Brooklyn and it was nice to be able to look at the skyline from afar rather than to be stuck amongst it. How pretty!
That evening Chris and Ioana (Ioana is my lovely French friend whom I met whilst working in American Apparel back in London) took me to see the live screening of Beach House’s video for their new song ‘Teen Dream’. The new album will be issued with a DVD featuring a music video for each song from the album. A different director has made each video, all very young and very talented. My favourite was ‘Silver Soul,’ which consisted of female dancers skating round, painted head to toe in silver. Beautifully done.
As well as buying my Mac for super super cheap out here, I wanted to have a good rummage around your thrift stores for some American vintage classics (completely unsuccessful might I add!) I did manage to find this jacket and knitted jumper for a sweet $40 for the pair. Atlantic Attic is located on Metropolitan Avenue between Graham and Humbolt. They also play great music…I was lucky enough to have the entire Beyonce collection during my 40 minute stay!
I first came to New York 5 years ago when I was 17. I remember the first thing I wanted to do when I got here was to cross Brooklyn Bridge by foot. The structure and height of the bridge really fascinated me. Once I crossed it, I by chance discovered a diner down in DUMBO called ‘Bubby’s.’ They do great food and the service is top notch. I’ll make sure to take a trip there every time I come to New York. Aside from the food and the amazing view they have a great vintage photo booth hidden behind the bar. You can’t find these anywhere in London so it’s a great fun to get them done, and it only cost $3! Bargain! (Arnault, Ioana and Joseph)
Colour, font and simple meanings. 3 of my favourite things to photograph in New York. I saw this printed on the side of a truck and loved the bold text combined with the bold colours and how it emphasized the ‘bold’ meaning.
It’s been a great week visiting New York. I will be back soon…I’m off home…I will see you there!
