Left to Right: Chef Joey Campanaro, Nur Khan, and Paul Sevigny at Kenmare
When you think of deejay night impressario Paul Sevigny pairing up with Rose Bar kingpin Nur Khan, the last thing that might pop to mind is incredible food, the kind that makes your mouth water. But add chef Joey Companaro — who presides at his restaurants Little Owl and Market Table — to the mix, and you’ve got incredible flavors for the taste buds and tummy in the midst of a crowd of artists, fashionistas, and the filthy rich. Welcome to their newest joint, Kenmare, 98 Kenmare Street Street, at Mott in NYC.
At recent tastings, I sampled the organic chicken with smoke over fava beans. Think pork and beans but it’s actually chicken! Delish….Fish specials grace the menu every night, with a halibut on the regular menu that’s flakey and moist. A soft shell crab over greens proved crispy and buttery in equal measure. The tuna tartare melts on your tongue. “I eat fish now!” Khan told me after decades as a proud self-proclaimed meat eater. The gnocchi with beef ragu fills you up with the comfort of mamma’s kitchen and the meatball sliders top the list of favorites too.
Desserts include baby cheese cannoli, filled by the pastry lady in the back kitchen, as well as a triple chocolate cake, and my personal favorite, a dulce de leche cake that feels like sweet heaven.
Who knew such a trendy place could taste so good?
Sexy intimate decor, and you can hear your date across the table too.
